1. The Gizeh Taxi Rate Explained Simply

Officially Set

The Gizeh taxi rate was officially set on 1 janvier 2024. Taxi tariffs in Egypt are officially set by cities or districts. The taxi tariff Gizeh was last set in janvier 2024 and published in the official tariff ordinance. It is binding for all taxis and taxi companies within the compulsory driving area and may not be exceeded or undercut. This is ensured by officially calibrated taximeters installed in the taxis.

How the fare is made up under the Gizeh taxi rate:

The Gizeh taxi tariff sets out how fares are calculated for taxi rides in Gizeh. Every ride starts with a base fare of 24.00 EGP. This amount is charged once the ride begins, regardless of the distance.

After the base fare, the journey is charged based on the distance traveled. For every kilometer, an additional 12.00 EGP is added to the fare. This price per kilometer applies throughout the entire trip after the base fare.

If the taxi is waiting, for example in traffic or while stopped at the passenger’s request, a waiting time charge applies. This waiting time is charged at a rate of 175.00 EGP per hour. This ensures that both the passenger and the driver have a clear understanding of how time is valued if the taxi is not moving.

The Gizeh taxi tariff provides a simple way to understand what you will pay: a starting fee, charges for the distance traveled, and a separate rate for waiting time. All charges must be paid in EGP. Passengers are encouraged to check that the taxi meter is running correctly to ensure the fare is calculated according to these rules.
