The Ho Chi Minh City taxi rate was officially set on 1 janvier 2024. Starting January 1, 2025, passengers in Vietnam will be able to negotiate taxi fares directly with drivers. This change is part of Decree No. 158/2024/ND-CP, which regulates road transportation and sets specific guidelines for taxis. Regardless of the agreed fare, companies are required to issue electronic invoices at the end of each trip and submit them to tax authorities. Additionally, taxis must display either a "TAXI" rooftop sign or reflective stickers with the same label on their front and rear windshields. These measures aim to allow more flexible pricing while ensuring compliance with tax regulations.

How the fare is made up under the Ho Chi Minh City taxi rate:

The taxi tariff of Ho-Chi-Minh-Stadt sets clear rules for calculating the price of a taxi ride. When you start your journey, there is an initial base fare of 18,500.00 VND. This amount is charged once at the beginning of your trip, as soon as you enter the taxi.

After the base fare, the cost of your journey depends on the distance you travel. For each kilometer after the start, you are charged 16,500.00 VND per kilometer. The distance is measured by the taxi’s meter to ensure accuracy.

If your taxi needs to wait for you, such as during a stop or slow traffic, there is a waiting time charge. The waiting time is charged at a rate of 60,000.00 VND per hour. The meter records and adds the waiting time automatically.
